Robie Benve
-
Robie grew up in Italy where she earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Venice.
In 2010 she moved to Columbus, Ohio, and had the opportunity to follow her passion by painting every day and taking art classes, starting a new career in the arts.
For several years, Robie has been a very prolific oil painter, her main subjects being landscapes and beautiful sunsets. In 2018 she had to switch to water-based paint due to allergies. “It has been a blessing hidden in an apparent setback,” says the artist. “Working with mixed media turned out to be so much fun, my studio has become my personal playground”.
A big fan of color, Robie creates vibrant pieces with layers of paint, papers, fibers, fabric, ink, charcoal, and other mixed media at her studio at High Road Gallery & Studios, in Worthington, OH.
Every new painting starts with a colorful abstract mixed media base. The initial spontaneous elements influence the painting and provide a guide to the intuitive process of creating the next layers. As Robie adds layers of color, she allows some of the first elements to peek through.
Robie also uses her unique hand-cut stencils to add patterns and abstract features, creating moments of surprise and fun. The resulting work is vibrant and happy. The unexpected patterns and marks add visual interest and catch the viewer's attention.
When she isn't creating art, Robie writes about creativity and the creative process. She is passionate about sharing with others what she's been learning, and she authored many online articles published on Feltmagnet.com and other sites.
